“Collaboration, teamwork, and connections” - CBMSS student

It’s that time of year again when community media leaders from across Australia join the CMTO on Gadigal Land for three days of leadership and fundraising workshops.

The third annual cohort of students are completing the CMTO’s THINK BIG CUASS00099 Community Broadcasting Marketing Skill Set - the only accredited course of its kind, designed to meet the needs of leaders in the community media sector.

Students took part in learning and assessment activities on topics including: presentation and promotions, fundraising events, sponsorship, grant writing, and volunteer management.

The workshops provided a unique opportunity for participants to connect and learn from each other, all commenting that the networks they had formed were invaluable. 

Feedback from students included:

“I’ve got a clearer direction now and I’m planning to focus on governance within the organisation”

Over six months, the students are working with industry mentors to complete a series of assessment tasks based on two major projects - a sponsorship campaign and a new income idea.
