Helpful Tips for Delivering Training Online!

As the CMTO continues to closely monitor the developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been following advice from the Australian Government Department of Health to ensure we are responding appropriately.

As part of our response plan, the CMTO has been progressing with training in a new online delivery format via ZOOM.

Below are some helpful tips and useful resources we have come across for trainers!

When conducting training via ZOOM, it is most beneficial to set the class up as a meeting rather than a webinar. The meeting function allows for an abundance of great features, including but not limited to:

  • Breakout Rooms
  • File Sharing
  • Icon options (allowing students to raise their hand or share how they are feeling by selecting icons)
To get a run down of how the meeting tools work, we recommend checking out this helpful meeting tutorial from our pals at ZOOM.
Key notes for trainers using ZOOM meetings:
Always remember to keep an eye on participants entering the room and make sure to allow them to enter, students may arrive late or drop out and rejoin. Keeping an eye on participants in the room ensures no one misses out on vital class time.
Recording classes is also highly recommended. This allows students to revisit the session and pick up on anything they missed or hone in on a point they had made in their notes. This is also helpful for participants who are only able to access the meeting via phone in the first instance- they can watch the video back later!
The ZOOM Help Center is a fantastic search engine for any queries regarding zoom.
Further to the ZOOM Help Center, ZOOM has an array of resources for your virtual classroom, they are a MUST READ!
The CMTO would like to say a big THANK YOU to our trainers who are helping us to navigate through this time and hope some of these resources can provide some clarity.
