CMTO traineeships are a great way for someone to start their career in media while also contributing to the growth and success of a community radio station.
A traineeship is paid employment which provides the trainee with the opportunity to learn on the job. Our trainees complete their certificate in weekly lessons with a CMTO trainer while working at a community radio station or community media organisation.
CMTO delivers traineeships all over the country, read on to learn about the progress of our traineeships in different states.
South Australia
Earlier this year CMTO was also delivering a traineeship in the Certificate III in Screen and Media to trainees at Fresh 92.7FM based in Adelaide, with CMTO trainer Anita Michalski delivering training remotely.
Both trainees have progressed from their respective roles at Fresh 92.7. One trainee is now the mornings announcer at The Riverina’s Hit 93.1 and the other is the Breakfast & Workday Announcer at Magic 105.9. The trainees’ promotion illustrates the positive employment outcomes of the CMTO traineeship program.
New South Wales
In March of this year CMTO’s own trainee from the Smart and Skilled Entitlement Apprenticeships and Traineeships Program 2022 officially completed their traineeship. Madhuraa earned her Certificate IV in Screen and Media with CMTO trainer Kween G. Now she works full time as our Communications Coordinator. Additionally, Madhuraa has become the host of All The Best on FBi Radio, thanks to the work placement at FBi they did as part of the traineeship.
This is what Madhuraa had to say about their experience as a CMTO trainee:
“I am so glad that I did the traineeship with CMTO. It opened many doors for me and I can’t believe how much I learned about community radio in just one year. The structure of the traineeship allowed me to get training in many different skills and helped ensure that by the end of the traineeship, my skill set was dynamic, adaptable and well suited to the industry.”
Queensland
CMTO currently has three traineeships ongoing in Queensland. We have one trainee at 4EB and two at 4ZZZ, all of whom are in the midst of completing their Certificate III in Screen and Media. CMTO trainer Chelsea Deeley has been delivering the course weekly to the QLD based students.
So far participants have been having a positive experience with the program. One of the participants has said that one of the most valuable parts of training has been “The trainer having lived experience of being an announcer at a community radio station.”
