Get your station trained in essential skills for summer with CMTO Emergency Preparedness training!

The Community Media Training Organisation is offering eligible stations the opportunity to do our Emergency Preparedness pathways course for free.

The Emergency Preparedness course is an opportunity for staff and volunteers to understand their role in an emergency and provides the skills required to keep their communities informed and safe.

It was developed by people with specialist knowledge in the field of emergency and disaster relief as well as extensive experience in community radio, including in rural and remote areas and with Indigenous communities.

“We now realise the importance of providing accurate and timely information to our listeners. We will be much better prepared for the next emergency.”  - 2BOB Radio

Topics included in the course:

  • Understand emergency broadcasting
  • Plan for Emergency Broadcasts
  • Understand Emergency agencies and critical information
  • Understand how to prepare content before, during and after emergencies
  • Auditing existing emergency broadcast assets and resources
  • Engaging and activating station and emergency networks

The course consists of a one-day, 6 hr training session delivered in person at Community radio stations.

While designed for face-to-face delivery, the course can be adapted for online synchronous delivery in consultation with station management and the trainer.

Stations are provided with an experienced trainer, student resource booklet and receive a station host fee to cover the cost of administration required to organise the training.

[The course contributed to our station by] “Providing a thorough overview of the role we can take on for our community as a community radio broadcaster in natural disaster situations and outlining the benefits to both the organisation and its listeners” - 2NCR
