The Media Lab is the hands-on space at the CBAA Conference, where you can pick up new skills or refresh on some old ones to take back to your station. This year, learn how to solder and audio edit with ease!

FRIDAY
Tech Connect: Wiring Up!
In line with it’s mission to make broadcast tech accessible for all, Technorama and the CMTO present Wiring Up! – a 2-hour hands-on workshop giving you the opportunity to learn basic skills in soldering, stripping and tinning wire. All equipment provided. This session will run twice on Friday.
SATURDAY
Host the Wire – How to Host a National Daily Current Affairs Program
Learn how community radio’s best daily current affairs program is put together with the team from The Wire. If you have an interest in journalism, this session is for you! You’ll learn how to write cue sheets for current affairs, present news stories to air and pitch your own story to The Wire. Record your work and listen back after the session. Presented by Rod Chambers (The Wire/2ser) and Steve Ahern – international broadcast training consultant, broadcaster, author and media commentator.
Intro to Audio Editing
Calling all audio editing newbies! Join Giordana Caputo, the CMTO’s CEO, for a hands-on exploration of digital audio workstation Hindenburg, to learn how to: clean up and spruce your recordings, store your files and use the correct sample rate for radio audio packages. This is a bring your own laptop session.
Advanced Audio Editing
Great EQ and compression are vital to your station’s audio production process. Shape your station’s sound with this session on advanced audio editing, where the CMTO’s Heli Newton will advance your knowledge of these concepts. Apply these skills to your on-air sound and branding, station identification, promotions & sponsorship stings. This is a bring your own laptop session.
