highlandfmThe Sydney CMTO trainers have been getting out and about, visiting two great stations in the New South Wales Southern Highlands: Highland FM and Youth Radio Southern Highlands.

Highland FM is located in Mittagong broadcasting on 107.1 FM and was founded in the late 1970s.

It features local information and music and aims to provide radio skills training for local people. Eight Highland FM trainees have embarked upon their Certificate III in Media with the CMTO and are well on their way to getting qualified.

Training sessions have been lively, with lots of conversation about media law, OHS issues and how to be a well-organised broadcaster.

Despite the chilly surrounds, CMTO Trainers, Nicola and Giordana have been exploring the beautiful town of Bowral. With its great pubs, wineries and friendly relaxed people, it’s no wonder some Highland FM volunteers travel from as far as Woollongong and Sydney to spend time in the region.

Youth Radio Southern Highlands is located in Moss Vale and broadcasts on 92.5FM. It is all about youth news, events, current affairs and community participation by young people.

A bunch of 92.5 FM vollies have been completing their Certificate III in Media through the CMTO, learning the studio ropes at the KazCare centre in Moss Vale with trainers Carol, Paul and Kween G.

Check them out on Facebook and if you are a young person in the Southern Highlands, get in touch as they are looking for volunteers!
