“I learnt new skills and built confidence to present my ideas in different ways to reach [our] audience” - Think Big Participant
This year the CMTO re-launched our THINK BIG Introduction to Fundraising online training and mentoring program.
Seven participants completed the program, supported by industry mentors including Evrim Sen, Ren Cuttriss and Phil Ruck - all of whom are extremely experienced within the community broadcasting sector.
The 12 week program consisted of fortnightly webinars and online readings on topics relating to community media income generation, specifically topics like sponsorship, grants, events, fundraising, and marketing.
In addition to being matched with an industry mentor, participants worked in small groups to complete activities and relate the learnings to their own station context. Some of these activities included reviewing media kits, practicing a grant application, completing an event risk assessment, and creating a project timeline for a fundraising campaign.
Our participants had some positive feedback for the newly restructured program:
“[The course] had good flow on. It made our mentoring sessions much richer. It was very good.”
“it was gold standard content from the industry”
“I loved the sequence of content in the course”
Ren, one of our industry mentors from 3MDR also gave feedback regarding their experience from the mentoring sessions:
“I learnt just as much as everyone else… we were all very supportive of each other and sharing insights and knowledge”
The stations that were involved included:
- 5UV Radio, Adelaide
- 2YAS Yass FM, Yass
- 91.5 The Positive Alternative, Gympie
- 7LTN City Park Radio, Tasmania
- 3SYN Media, Melbourne
- 2BBB, NSW North Coast
