The CMTO has a new CEO!
The CMTO is pleased to announce the appointment of Giordana Caputo as its new CEO. Giordana moves into the lead position after more than five years as the CMTO’s Training Manager.
According to the CMTO Chairperson Dr Christina Spurgeon the CMTO is now well-established as the community media sector’s training specialists.
“We are now entering a new stage of consolidation and growth and are excited to have Giordana take up the positon of CEO” Dr Spurgeon said.
“It’s a great credit to the out-going CEO Nicola Joseph, who established the organisation from scratch and now leaves it in excellent health. Nicola nurtured and grew the capacity of the CMTO team to the point that the internal applicant was also the best candidate for the CEO role after her departure.”
Giordana’s experience as both the CMTO’s Training Manager and as station manager at Brisbane’s 4ZZZ means she understands training from both the provider and employer point of view. Giordana was also the Executive Producer of FBi’s All the Best program and she has co-ordinated several national outside broadcasts from the Woodford Folk Festival.
“Giordana brings to the CEO position a wealth of hands on experience in the community broadcasting sector” Dr Spurgeon said.
The CMTO has seen some changes in the last year with the passing of its first chairperson, Tiga Bayles and now the departure of Nicola Joseph who established the organisation and was the CMTO’s founding CEO. Nicola announced last year her intention to leave the position to take up a Phd research on diversity and the Australian media. “We are extremely sad to see Nicola go but understand her decision and expect that she will continue to make nationally significant contributions to the sector through research and engagement” said Dr Spurgeon. Nicola will work with Giordana during a short transition period.
Another long-term board member Andrew Baartz also recently completed his second term on the CMTO board.
“It is the sign of a strong organisation that these changes have been managed with smooth transitions and lot of careful planning” Dr Spurgeon said.
“Nicola Joseph laid the foundations of the organisation and we are immensely grateful for her contribution not only to the CMTO but to the community broadcasting sector as a whole.”
