The Ken Burns effect is a panning and zooming effect used traditionally in documentaries and other video material when stills are included. This is a step by step guide on how to achieve the Ken Burns effect using iMovie.

4. Click the crop tool in the middle of the display. It is located in between the microphone (voice-over) and the i (information) icons. It will tell you to ‘Select a clip to crop’. Click on the image on the left hand side under ‘My First Project’ to select it

5. Essentially what the Ken Burns effect does is creates a camera that pans and zooms across the image. Now you will see the start and end positions of the ‘camera’. You can alter these depending on what you want to focus in on. We are going to focus in on the fresh kicks in the shot. When you are finished click ‘Done’.

7. Adjust the time of the video to your desire. Remember the longer it is the more time it will take to sink in.
