Think Big Social Enterprise Training heading image

Community radio stations are experts in creating on-air content, but how do we ensure our digital presence is effective, impactful, and consistent?

The CMTO is working with Pubblico!, leaders in digital communications strategies, to tailor a unique training and mentoring program for stations around Australia.

The CMTO jumped at the opportunity to license and adapt Pubblico!’s unique learning content for the development of a training and mentoring program in Digital Marketing for community media organisations all across the country.

Drawing on existing community radio experiences and case studies from the sector, this will form the basis of our latest THINK BIG leadership and enterprise mentoring program to be delivered in 2022.

As part of our commitment to activate communities with skills to increase media participation and social inclusion, this continues the work we have done to draw on industry best practice from organisations like Our Community and The NonProfit Alliance

Director of Pubblico!, Tiani Chillemi, has been working with community media for 15 years to assist them in building audiences and connecting communities through digital content and live events.

Backed by the City of Sydney, the team at Pubblico! have assembled best practice guides from independant and grassroots organisations with outstanding digital strategies, so community media organisations can draw on their knowledge and experience when creating their own digital marketing plans.

“By helping community radio stations to innovate, they have a better opportunity to support Sydney’s creative economies which helps to connect communities”

Tiani Chillemi, Director Pubblico!

Original content features best practice guides from special guest bloggers and interviews with industry practitioners including:

  • Greg Hall – National Marketing Manager at Young Henrys
  • Angela Stengel – Head, Content Ideas Lab at Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)
  • Lena Nahlous – Executive Director at Diversity Arts Australia (DARTS)
  • Rebecca McLean Chan – Donor Executive & Joshua Forward – Digital Marketing Manager, both at Sydney Theatre Company
  • Molly Condon – Partnerships manager, Frankie Magazine
  • Tiani Chillemi – Audience Development, Pubblico!

These resources will contribute to the CMTO THINK BIG series of online learning and mentoring programs, designed to support community media organisations to strengthen and diversify income.

In 2020-2021 the CMTO led 40 participants from 26 stations through training on Grants, Fundraising and Sponsorship. Participants worked with mentors to develop their own enterprise projects, including a youth podcast training initiative and a studio upgrade fundraiser.

A digital communications mentoring program will be launched in 2022 to help stations take their online activity to the next level. This is alongside an advanced accredited leadership and enterprise course scheduled to start at the beginning of the year.
