Think Big – Social Enterprise

How do you raise money? Do you have an idea you want to develop, but not sure where to start?

Our connection with our audiences is the unique strength of community broadcasting – but how can it support our financial sustainability?

Think Big is a fully-funded online learning and mentoring program designed to support community radio and television stations to strengthen and diversify income.

Small groups of up to 3 people from each station are invited to apply and undertake the course together so that the learnings can be actioned at an organisational level.

Using case studies and skills from across the sector, the first part of this three-part course focuses on audience support through membership, subscriptions and sponsorship.

Participants will reflect on their station strengths and consolidate their audience support plan through a program of webinars, online learning and mentoring, topped off with a fully funded residential workshop to share ideas and develop informal support networks.

This will lead into a second course focusing on fundraising campaigns and project development. 

Participants looking to formalise their learning will then be invited to undertake the third part of the course which includes accredited units from the CUA Creative Arts and Culture Training Package.

Mentors Wanted

And we’re always on the look-out for inspiring mentors to support participants through the learning and business planning process.

These are paid positions with agreed expenses covered by the CMTO.

If you have relevant business development experience in community media, arts, creative, or NFP sectors, apply here by Monday 2 December.

 

The CMTO Leadership & Enterprise Training project builds on sector strengths to create flexible learning and mentoring opportunities in business development, social enterprise, governance, management, and leadership skills through 2 key programs, Think Big & Take it On.

Take it On is a series of professional development summits, workshops, online meetups, and training opportunities to upskill existing and potential community media trainers in leadership and management skills.

In 2020 we’ll be rolling out a program of networking summits and guest speaker workshops with topics so far including:

  • Change management
  • Digital fundraising campaigns
  • Collaborative leadership

This will be combined with training offered in partnership with Our Community.

  • Community Media Governance and Management one-day workshop
  • Diploma in Governance (Business)

Workshops and summits will be held in capital cities across the country.

Registration will be free of charge or heavily subsidised and we’ll organise travel and accommodation where needed.
